Iranian Official Alleges Israeli Use of “Occult and Supernatural Spirits” in Recent Conflict, Drawing Official Israeli Response
TEHRAN / JERUSALEM – July 13, 2025 – A senior Iranian official has publicly claimed that Israel deployed “the occult and supernatural spirits” during the recent 12-day conflict between the two nations, an assertion that has been met with pointed mockery from Israeli diplomatic and intelligence entities.
Abdollah Ganji, former editor-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-linked newspaper Javan, took to his prominent X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday to share what he described as a “strange phenomenon” observed during the recent hostilities. Ganji, who commands a substantial following of 150,000 on the platform, wrote, “After the recent war, a few sheets of paper were found on the streets of Tehran containing talismans with Jewish symbols.”
He further insinuated a pattern of such alleged activities, recalling, “In the first year of the Gaza war, news had also leaked about Netanyahu meeting with occult specialists.” Ganji also invoked a previous statement attributed to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who “had stated that hostile countries and Western and Hebrew intelligence services use occult sciences and jinn entities for espionage.”
The claims quickly elicited an official retort from Israel’s intelligence agency. The Mossad’s official Farsi X account responded directly to Ganji’s post on Tuesday, stating, “Using drugs and talking to the jinn are not desirable traits for someone leading a country.”
Further amplifying the Israeli response, Waleed Gadban, Israel’s Political Advisor to the Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations, reposted the Mossad’s message. Gadban added a sarcastic caption in Farsi, “Jinn, jinn are everywhere,” concluding his post with a ghost emoji, underscoring the dismissive stance taken by Israeli officials.
The concept of “jinn” holds significant cultural and religious weight in the Islamic world. As explained by Britannica, Jinn are conceptualized in Islam as creatures parallel to human beings, possessing free will and the capacity to choose between good and evil. They are believed to be capable of assuming various forms and exercising extraordinary powers, and their existence is affirmed in the Quran.
This public exchange highlights the unconventional narratives emerging from the recent regional conflict, underscoring the deep ideological divisions and the varied interpretations of events by the involved parties.
