SSPDF Elements Accused Of Killing 21 Civilians In Ayod County Massacre
PANKHOR, SOUTH SUDAN – A series of graphic images and official statements have emerged detailing an alleged massacre in Ayod County, Jonglei State, reportedly resulting in the deaths of at least 21 civilians. The incident, which took place in Pankhor village, Pajiek Payam, has drawn sharp condemnation from opposition leaders who describe it as a grave violation of international humanitarian law.
According to a formal statement released by the Real Sudan People’s Liberation Movement Forward (R-SPLM/F), elements of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) are accused of carrying out the attack on February 21, 2026. The reported victims include: 10 women, 6 children, 5 elderly men.

Evidence from the scene shows several bodies in civilian clothing, some with their hands bound behind their backs. Other images depict victims within residential areas, suggesting the attack targeted individuals in or near their homes.
Hon. Nathaniel Garang Aduotdit, Chairman of the R-SPLM/F and a candidate for the 2026 presidential elections, labeled the event a “barbaric act” that undermines the nation’s hope for reconciliation.
The group has formally petitioned international monitors, including the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the African Union (AU), and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), to launch an immediate investigation to ensure justice and prevent further atrocities.
This violence follows other recent reports of unrest in the region, including the assassination of Chief Adekrich Lual in Tonj East County, Warrap State, highlighting a concerning trend of lawlessness and retributive justice as the country approaches its general elections.
In addition to seeking international intervention, leadership has appealed to local youth communities to exercise maximum restraint to avoid a descent into further cycles of violence. As of this report, the SSPDF has not released a formal statement regarding the specific allegations in Pankhor village.
